A passport is an especially important item when it comes to travel. According to its definition, a passport is “an official document issued by a government, certifying the holder’s identity and citizenship and entitling them to travel under its protection to and from foreign countries.” One of the key features of a passport is the photo of the person whose identity and information is shared in the document. While the appearance of a person changes as they get older, they likely still look like the person in the passport photo. What happens if the passport holder no longer resembles the photo due to plastic surgery? One woman from England recently discovered the answer to this question the hard way and her story is shared in this article as well as the latest video from Cosmetic Town TV:
In the United States, there are times when the people that work for Customs and Border Protection at the airport have to look twice at a person to make sure they are actually the person that belongs with the passport. In England, the people who check passports are known as passport control officers. No matter the country, Joanne Prophet, a twenty-eight-year-old aesthetic practitioner and skin specialist from Rossendale, Lancashire (in the northwest part of England) has caused border staff to look more than once at her passport.
What is the issue with her passport according to those checking its authenticity?
Joanne no longer resembles her passport photo!
She told Newsweek, “I have been pulled [aside at the airport] in Turkey and asked multiple questions by the staff, as they didn’t think the picture was me. I have also had it happen twice in Manchester [in the U.K.}.”
In a TikTok video posted last month that has over 340,000 views, Joanne said she was “pulled into a room for about an hour and got interrogated by six Turkish men. Plus, when she flew back to Manchester, the airport officials at that location said the photo “looks nothing like me.” She was advised to get a new passport “as this is why I’m getting pulled on it all the time." She added, “The new facial [recognition] machines don’t even recognize me.”
According to Joanne, the passport photo in question was taken ten years ago, and she kept using it because her passport had not yet expired.
The video also includes a message that reads, “I think I look exactly the same? On a serious note. No wonder I keep getting stopped at the airport when I go through passport control.”
According to previous videos that she posted; Joanne has undergone multiple cosmetic surgery treatments that have altered her look. Some of these procedures include Botox, veneers, lip filler, and rhinoplasty AKA a nose job. Her updated look also includes hair extensions and fake eyelashes.
In her own words, she is “not 100 percent natural.”
In her latest video, she shows a set of passport photos along with a message that is included with the video. The message reads, “Finally updated my passport pic after being interrogated every time I fly because apparently this doesn’t look like me.”
The story of Joanne and her passport problems amused many members of the TikTok community. Some of the reactions included:
According to the U.S Department of State, a person will need to change and update their passport image only if their “appearance has significantly changed from what is in your current passport.”
The department added, “Growing a beard or coloring your hair would not constitute a significant change. If you can still be identified from the photo in your current passport, you do not need to apply for a new passport. If the appearance of your child under the age of 16 has changed due to the normal aging process, you do not need to apply for a new passport for your child.”
